Wednesday: Label the 3 climate zones on the picture of the Earth you drew in your Science notebooks. Thursday: Same homework as Wednesday. Friday: Students will finish their Science poems! Week of May 22nd - May 26th Monday: Pick 2 out of the 4 forms of precipitation we learned about today. How are they similar? How are they different? Tuesday: Same homework from Monday. Week of March 20th - March 24th Monday: Separate the resources found in Florida from your notes in to 2 categories: renewable and nonrenewable resources. Tuesday: Same homework as Monday. Wednesday: Finish making your energy conservation posters! These posters can be about using renewable energy, the dangers of using nonrenewable energy sources, or why it is important to recycle! Thursday: Same homework as Wednesday. Friday: No school! Students have the weekend to work on their energy conservation posters. These will be due on Wednesday, March 29th! Week of March 13th - March 17th Monday: Eric and Shawn are talking about natural resources. Eric says that the sun is a nonrenewable resource because it is a star, and all stars eventually burn out. Shawn says that, because our Sun will go Supernova a long time from now, it is a renewable energy source. Who is correct? EXPLAIN. Tuesday: Same homework as Monday. Wednesday: Garrett was watching the news when he saw that a forest close to where he lives is going to be cut down. Garrett wants to write a letter to the company explaining to them why they should not destroy the forest. Using renewable energy sources, help Garrett write his letter to the construction company. Week of February 27th - March 3rd Monday: Julian noticed that there are cracks in the sidewalk outside of his house. Describe which agent of physical weathering you think caused the sidewalk to crack. Explain your answer! Tuesday: Same homework as Monday. Wednesday: Students will create a Venn Diagram to compare/contrast weathering and erosion. Thursday: Same as Wednesday. Friday: Tyler and Nancy are both astronomers that have discovered a new object in the sky. It is larger than our Moon and rotates around Saturn. What type of object could it be? Week of January 30th - February 3rd Monday: Hank and Walter are having a discussion about the Solar System. Hank says that on Earth we have 24 hour days because the Earth revolves around the Sun. Is he correct? Explain your reasoning. Tuesday: Same homework as Monday. Wednesday: Vicky says that all objects in the Solar System rotate around the Sun. Week of December 19th - December 23rd Monday: When Mr. Elizondo was warming up his lunch the other day, he had his food in a Styrofoam container. After warming his food up for 3 minutes, he noticed that the container had broken! Why did this happen? What can we say about styrofoam in terms of being a conductor or an insulator? Enjoy your holiday break! Week of December 12th - December 16th Monday: Tyler is cooking food for dinner. While he is cooking, he accidentally touches the pan and burns his hand. Describe how the heat energy moved in this situation from one object to another. Tuesday:Students will draw an outline of a person's body. Then, they need to do the following: 1) Label the 2 body parts where the input entered the body during the game. 2) Label the part of the body that processed the information that the input gave. 3) label the part of the body that produced the output. Wednesday: Ivan takes his temperature and finds that it is 98.6 degrees. His younger brother Greg, who is sick, has a temperature of 99.7 degrees. How can we compare the movement of particles in Ivan's body to those in Greg's body? Explain. Thursday: Same as Wednesday. Friday: Same as Wednesday. Wednesday: Students will answer the following question in their Science notebooks: In the state of Florida, which type of energy do you think would be the most useful to us? How could you use what you have learned from designing this model to help you solve a problem in your life? 2. What changes would you make to improve your design? Week of November 21st - November 25th Monday: Students will answer the following question in their science notebooks: Hector and Kristopher are doing an experiment with pitch. Hector grabs a 12 inch ruler, while Kristopher grabs a yard stick (36 inches). If both students place their ruler the same distance off their desks and flick them, which ruler will make a higher pitch sound? Explain your reasoning. Tuesday: Same homework as Monday. The students will describe which bottle will have the higher pitch when we hit it. Thursday: Same homework as Wednesday. Friday: Students can use the internet, friends/family, or any other resource to answer the following: What is the main energy source in Miami? Where is it located? Week of October 31st - November 4th Monday: Write down 3 examples of energy that you use or see everyday. Make sure to describe the item and the type of energy it uses! Describe the energy conversions that take place in order for the lights to work. Week of October 17th - October 21st Monday: How could a model of an animal cell help students to understand how the body works? Tuesday: Same homework as Monday. Week of October 10th - October 14th *Because we did not have school on Thursday or Friday of last week, the following problem will be due by Friday: In their science notebooks, the students will copy and answer the following: - Nathan walks outside and sees a piece of bread on the ground. He notices that it has a dark green color and does not smell good. He decides that the bread must be rotting. 1) Is the bread rotting a physical or chemical change? 2) Is Nathan saying the bread is rotting an observation, an inference, or an opinion? Why? The project has the following requirements: 1) Plan must include a way to help with weathering, erosion, and sea levels rising. 2) A timeline for how long your plan will take. 3) How will you pay for your plan? 4) Will you partner with any other companies? 5) Illustration for your plan. Week of February 27th - March 3rd - No assessments this week. Week of February 20th - February 24th - No assessments this week. Week of February 13th - February 17th - Students will complete the "Be an Astronomer" assessment in class. Week of February 6th - February 10th - No assessments this week. Week of January 30th - February 3rd - No assessments this week. Week of January 23rd - January 27th - Students have a test on Wednesday, January 25th on Force and Motion, In addition, they have a Mid-Year Assessment (MYA) in Science on Friday, January 27th. Week of January 16th - January 20th - There are no assessments this week. Week of January 9th - January 13th - There are no assessments this week. Week of December 19th - December 23rd - There are no assessments this week. Week of December 12th - December 16th - Just as a note, we will be having visitors from PLTW on Tuesday, December 13th. Because of this, we are changing the schedule so that students have Science on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week. This is why the homework schedule looks different than usual. Week of December 5th - December 9th - Students will be completing a "Community Project" where they design their own communities. Their projects must include the following: 1) Name of the community 2) What type of energy the community uses 3) Illustrations with labels within the community (houses, power source, connections, etc.) 4) Written descripition as to why your choice of energy is more beneficial to your community than any other energy. Week of November 28th - December 2nd - Students will be taking a quiz on the following topics: 1) The difference between sound, vibration, and pitch. 2) Energy conversions (ex. electrical to heat, chemical to light). 3) Relationship between Energy and Motion. Students can use their Science notebooks and their PLTW launch logs to prepare for the quiz. Week of November 21st - November 25th - No assessments this week. Week of November 14th - November 18th - No assessments this week. Week of November 7th - November 11th - Students will be given a take home test on Wednesday, November 9th. This assignment will be due on Monday, November 14th. Week of October 31st - November 4th - No assessments this week. Week of October 24th - October 28th -No assessments this week. Week of October 17th - October 21st -No assessments this week. Week of October 10th - October 14th On Friday, October 14th we will be taking our Chapter 1 test.
